ACMEQU308 Transport horses using a road vehicle

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to safely transport horses in a vehicle or float to a destination, including loading, unloading and monitoring horses.

This unit applies to workers who apply technical knowledge and skills with discretion and judgement to care for horses in a range of environments that require horses to be transported. They work under broad direction, coordinate resources and activities, and solve predictable and unpredictable problems.

Commonwealth and state/territory health and safety and animal welfare legislation, regulations and codes of practice relevant to interacting with horses apply to workers in this industry. Requirements vary between industry sectors and jurisdictions.

The transport, cross-border movement and siting of livestock including horses must comply with state and territory transport, quarantine and biosecurity legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

No vehicle licensing is required for individuals undertaking the work described in this unit. Where an individual is the nominated transport vehicle owner or driver, state and territory legislation, regulations, licencing and registration apply.
